It’s that time again: Move-in at university residence halls

August 21, 2009 By

University of Wisconsin–Madison students will be arriving at their campus residence halls next week, and that means that some streets will be closed or limited to one-way traffic.

The three busiest days will be Tuesday, Aug. 25; Thursday, Aug. 27; and Friday, Aug. 28. Although a majority of students will move in on those three days, student employees of University Housing have been moving in since Aug. 10.

Approximately 1,300 students will arrive on Aug. 25. On Aug. 27-28, approximately 2,600 per day will move into their residence halls.

To accommodate the students and their parents as they arrive and unload their belongings, traffic flow will be affected on the following streets from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Aug. 25, 27 and 28:

  • Observatory Drive from Charter Street to Babcock Drive will be restricted primarily to move-in traffic and will be limited to one way westbound.
  • Elm Drive north of Observatory Drive will be restricted primarily to move-in traffic and will be one way northbound. Willow Drive will be open to one-way traffic west to Marsh Lane.
  • Lake Street between West Johnson and West Dayton streets will be closed to traffic.
  • Some parking lots near the halls will be used for unloading, which will severely limit parking spaces and require some permit holders to seek parking in other lots.
