A veteran of the Wisconsin Film Festival has been tapped to be its interim director, following the departure of Mary Carbine. Meg Hamel, a UW–Madison graduate, began her new duties on Nov. 28.

“Meg will be well-known to past WFF supporters and attendees having served as the volunteer, venue and logistics manager for previous festivals,” says Susan Cook, executive director of the Arts Institute, which is the organizer of the film festival. “Meg brings significant experience to the position as well as great enthusiasm for the festival. She knows the Madison community well and on top of it has impeccable programming skills.”

Which will be put to good use — and quickly — as the 2006 festival begins to take shape.

“We’re itching to put the program together for 2006 because we love the atmosphere and excitement and the extraordinary movies that the Wisconsin Film Festival has brought to Madison over the years,” Hamel says. “By the time that the festival rolls around, we’ll all enjoy some really terrific films.”

The 2006 Wisconsin Film Festival will take place on Thursday, March 30-Sunday, April 2, at various venues on campus and in downtown Madison. For more information, visit the festival’s Web site, http://www.wifilmfest.org.
