Guest pianist to appear with Pro Arte Quartet

Acclaimed pianist Gilbert Kalish will join the Pro Arte Quartet in concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, in Mills Hall.

The School of Music also will host hornist Arkady Shilkloper at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, in Morphy Hall. Shilkloper is known as one of few jazz artists on the French horn. ‘Creation’ and ‘Trickster’ focus of American Indian storytelling Elders from the Ojibwe, Oneida, Ho-Chunk, Kickapoo, Tulalip and Navajo nations will tell traditional tales Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4 and 5, at UW–Madison’s Eighth Annual Evenings of American Indian Storytelling.

The stories on Friday will center around creation. On Saturday, the focus turns to Trickster, an archetype represented in folktales around the world.

Both sessions are free and open to the public. They will begin at 7 p.m. in the Mosse Humanities Building. On Friday they will be held in Mills Hall, while on Saturday they will be in Morphy Hall.
