Grants reward work of five faculty members
Five recipients of this year’s Research-Service Grants and Faculty Professional Development Grants have been announced.
Two 2014 Research-Service Grants have been approved. The recipients are Laura Hernandez in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Department of Dairy Science, and Jenell Johnson in theCollege of Letters & Science Department of Communication Arts.
The Research-Service Grants program was initiated to recognize the service contributions that untenured faculty members, especially women and members of minority groups, are asked to make to the university. Assistant professors and instructors who are in the first five years of tenure-track service at UW–Madison are eligible for summer salary (2/9ths of the academic year salary or equivalent) to pursue worthy research projects.
There will be three 2014-15 Faculty Professional Development Grants. The recipients are Glen Close in the College of Letters & Science Department of Spanish & Portuguese; Jesse Lee Kercheval in the College of Letters & Science Department of English; and Susan Robinson in the College of Letters & Science School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
The Faculty Professional Development program is dedicated to the maintenance of academic excellence in the University of Wisconsin System “to increase the flexibility and effective use of existing faculty personnel in the University of Wisconsin System.” UW System funds are provided to support retraining, renewal and faculty development.
