Glass Lab to host open house

December 1, 2008 By Gwen Evans

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Glass Lab will host an open house with glass-blowing demonstrations and a student glass sale Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 6-7. The event will be held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the lab, 630 W. Mifflin St., next to the Kohl Center on the south end of Frances Street. Admission is free to this family friendly event.

Glass artists will show how they create objects from molten glass in a demonstration filled with drama, danger and beauty.

Art glass for sale will range from $10-$200, giving attendees the chance to pick up an affordable work of art from the students — before they go on to fame. Imagine snapping up an early work by the now-collectible Dale Chihuly or Harvey Littleton. The money raised will fund Glass Lab activities.

UW-Madison’s glass program, which started in 1962, is the oldest of its kind in the nation.
