Former Norway prime minister to visit campus for symposium

The Lubar Institute for the Study of the Abrahamic Religions (LISAR) will host the symposium “Negotiating Religion Internationally” from 2–4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, in Tripp Commons at the Memorial Union.

This discussion of religion’s role in international negotiations will feature Kjell Magne Bondevik, former prime minister of Norway and founder of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights, and Thomas Loftus, former U.S. ambassador to Norway and special adviser to the director of the World Health Organization.

The guests will speak on the initiative of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights that resulted in the Tehran Conference on “Religion in the Modern World” as well as the negotiations surrounding the Oslo accords. Professor David Morgan of UW–Madison and assistant professor Amaney Jamal of Princeton University will offer their comments.
