Staff Directory Updates
Work is under way to produce the 2000-01 UW–Madison Staff Directory. During the week of May 29, department secretaries/contact persons will receive the necessary instructions to complete the update process. Sections A and B of the current staff directory will need to be updated. Section A is the departments listing and is located on pages A22-A69 of the current 1999-2000 directory. Section B is the faculty index and emeritus faculty and academic staff portion and is located on pages B1-B30 of the current 1999-2000 directory. Updates to the directory can be done either electronically or by hard copy. One individual per unit/department must assume full responsibility for updates and final proofing of entries. Deadline for updates to Sections A and B is Friday, June 23.
Employee Information Changes
To change individual detailed office, e-mail and home address information, employees are reminded to submit an Employee Information form to Employee Compensation and Benefits, 49 A.W. Peterson. These forms can be obtained from your unit payroll and benefits coordinator or at http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/ecbs/uw1035.html. Grants and fellowships
Workshops in the Humanities
The Center for the Humanities has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation to establish interdisciplinary workshops in the humanities. These workshops will function as study and discussion groups, each with a focus on a particular, broadly conceived theme. The center will fund five workshops per year over the next two academic years. Each workshop will receive $5,000 for the year for the purchase and copying of materials for members and, if its members wish, for inviting outside speakers.
The proposal for a workshop should come from a group of at least four individuals, at least one of whom must be a student (graduate or undergraduate) and no more than two of whom can be from the same department. It should specify who will be the target audience for its participants. It should also make clear what the theme for the workshop will be, what topics will be discussed and what materials will likely be studied, and what outside speakers (if any) might be invited.
Two criteria will be used by the center’s executive committeee in selecting workshops: breadth of interdisciplinary interest and inclusiveness both in the theme and in the participants, and feasibility of proposed project. Deadline for proposals: Sept. 15. Submit to Center for the Humanities, 4217 Humanities. A proposal should be no more than three single-spaced pages; send 10 copies.
