Five Questions With…

May 2, 2006

Marie Koch works in the office at Ebling Library, doing payroll and leave accounting for all of the library’s employees. She also orders supplies and provides a connection between the Health Sciences Learning Center mailroom and the Ebling staff.

1. How long have you worked at UW–Madison?

I started at UWHC as a pharmacy technician in December 1984 and moved to Middleton Health Sciences Library in December 1991. Middleton, Weston and Power libraries merged to form Ebling in June 2004.

2. What made you want to work at UW–Madison?

When looking for a career change, I looked into state jobs, took a few tests and found a job that I really liked. I was lucky to be able to find another different but equally fun and challenging job when I wanted another change. This job has grown and changed so that it always remains interesting.

3. What has made you want to continue working at UW–Madison?

I like the people I work with and the responsibilities I have. It is great to be able to help people solve a problem, whether it is how to properly account for time off, finding that elusive item they need to order or re-sending scanned material to patrons who have made a typo in their e-mail address.

4. What is your favorite memory of UW–Madison?

The brat and weenie roast in the healing garden to celebrate the end of our three-week move to Ebling.

5. If a friend or family member who had never been to campus before was coming for a visit, where would you take them and why?

I like showing off the Ebling Library. It is so modern compared to what most people think of that they are always impressed.
