Faculty make music to support abuse prevention, cancer research

Roberto Rengel, associate professor in the School of Human Ecology, will put his congas and timbales in service to the salsa band Grupa Candela in Rhumba 4 Rainbow, an event to support the prevention of child abuse and domestic violence. The event features a Latin dance show, a silent auction, food, door prizes and Extra Mile Awards for children and families who have made a difference in their communities.

The festivities begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Palace Latin Club, 1401 University Ave. Advance tickets are available through the Rainbow Project, 255-7356.

On Friday, Sept. 29, the School of Music’s Brass Quintet will join the student a cappella group the MadHatters in “Tune It Up” for prostate cancer research at the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center. The $25 ticket includes admission and hors d’oeuvres. The curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre, 216 State St. For additional information: 263-1677 or ajohnson@uwccc.wisc.edu.
