Engineering job market looks strong

June 21, 2001

Despite the nation’s economic downturn, company registration for the College of Engineering annual fall career fair, Career Connection, is very strong, placement officials report.

“Nearly 5,000 interviews for engineering students have already been scheduled for the fall,” says Engineering Career Services Director Sandra Arnn. “These indicators reflect both optimism about the economy and recognition of the high quality of our students.”

While the nation’s economic slowdown has caused numerous job offers to new graduates to be rescinded across the country, College of Engineering graduates have experienced minimal problems.

“Up to this point, we’ve seen only about 10 full-time, permanent job offers revoked or delayed, and a few summer internships have been cancelled,” says Arnn. “Some of those candidates have received financial compensation as well as offers of assistance from the company in finding other opportunities.”
