Dance major, Girl Neighborhood Power create hip-hop showcase

March 25, 2003

For four weeks, a UW–Madison senior and members of Atwood Community Center’s Girl Neighborhood Power have been creating a collaborative hip-hop dance experience.

HIP-HOP GIRLZ will premiere at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 29, in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space of Lathrop Hall. The event is free, but donations are welcome to support Girl Neighborhood Power, an empowerment program for at-risk youth.

Dance major Karen Heusinger, in conjunction with the University Office of Outreach Educationâ Saturday Enrichment Program, has recruited seventh- and eighth-grade girls for her senior honors project in dance and education.

Other Saturday enrichment classes will showcase their efforts as well. A small reception is to follow.
