Changes accompany union closing

January 14, 2009

With the Dec. 22 closing of Union South, numerous campus services have relocated to temporary quarters until a new south campus union opens in spring 2011.

Beginning in early February, the former University Health Services building, 1552 University Ave., will become the Breese Terrace Union. It will have a convenience store, coffee kiosk, meeting rooms, a DoIT computer lab and, eventually, outdoor seating. Additional details about services and hours will be announced in the coming weeks.

Until then, students, faculty and staff looking for food service in that area are encouraged to visit the ICU Deli (Medical Sciences Center), E2-Engineering Eatery (Engineering Hall) or Capital Cafe (Grainger Hall).

New students, faculty and staff members in need of campus ID cards to start the semester should visit the Wiscard Office’s new location in Room 4316 of the east wing of Memorial Union. The office handles photo ID cards, passport photos and other Wiscard services.

In 2006, UW–Madison students voted to build a new south campus student union. The decommissioning of Union South will continue until February, when demolition will begin. Construction of the new facility is scheduled for May.
