Campus invited to segregated fee forum

November 14, 2007 By John Lucas

The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Offices of the Dean of Students (ODOS) will hold a public comment forum on proposed changes to the policies governing how student segregated fees are distributed to student organizations.

The session, open to the entire campus community, will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in Room 1111 of the Mosse Humanities Building.

Since the summer, the UW System Committee to Review Allocable Segregated Fee Policies has been meeting regularly, discussing technical changes to policies and procedures of how fee money is disbursed.

With a revised draft policy scheduled to go before the UW System Board of Regents on Thursday-Friday, Dec. 6-7, all campuses are being invited to provide input to the process. At the ODOS session, each speaker will have three minutes to comment.

Dean of Students Lori Berquam, associate deans Kevin Helmkamp and Argyle Wade, assistant dean Drew Wielgus and Student Services Finance Committee chair Alex Gallagher will all be in attendance to listen to input.

Several of the key issues that have developed out of the policy review include state oversight of segregate fee dollars, the ability of Registered Student Organizations to lease off-campus space and the ability of organizations to hire non-university employees through the use of student fees.

Members of the UW–Madison community are also invited to log their views by e-mailing segfee@odos.wisc.edu.

Please include your name, year in school and student organization affiliation (if any). Or, if you are a faculty or staff member, please include your department or unit.

All comments, as well as a recording of the comment forum, will be provided to UW System staff in advance of the Dec. 6-7 regents meeting.

Please note, the address will be for feedback only, and those sending e-mail should not expect a personal reply.
