Badger Insider Magazine debuts bigger, bolder look

October 4, 2007

Thousands of University of Wisconsin–Madison alumni and friends are opening their mailboxes this week to find the new Badger Insider Magazine — bigger, bolder and better than ever.

Badger Insider is an exclusive publication for members of the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA). The magazine features articles about campus memories, UW–Madison’s rich history and points of UW–Madison pride. Each issue also captures the Badger experience, as written and photographed by UW–Madison alumni themselves.

"WAA is made up of tens of thousands of loyal Badger grads around the country," says Paula Bonner, WAA president and CEO. "Being a Badger is a big thing — and it deserves a big magazine."

Badger Insider was previously delivered to WAA members as part of On Wisconsin, an award-winning quarterly publication sent to all UW–Madison graduates. Beginning this fall, Badger Insider is now sent independently to WAA members four times per year.

The magazine highlights the lives and experiences of UW–Madison alumni and WAA members around the world. The debut issue of the new Badger Insider includes:

  • Badgering: A profile of Mitch Amino, a graphics and animation engineer for DreamWorks, whose work appears in feature films such as "Antz" and "Shrek";
  • Caribbean a lá Cart: A behind-the-scenes look at the world of cuisine in the food carts on Madison’s Library Mall;
  • Halloween Howlers: Favorite memories and legendary tales of Halloween celebrations in Madison; and
  • Pitching Peace: An insightful look at how UW–Madison baseball turned a diplomatic double play at the turn of the century.

WAA members know that Badger Insider is also the only place to find a spirited wardrobe for the wildly popular "Flat Bucky," whose worldwide travels are well-documented in the pages of the members-only magazine.

In addition, each issue of Badger Insider details upcoming local WAA events, lifelong-learning opportunities and alumni obituaries. WAA Super Members also receive special recognition in the magazine.

The only way to receive Badger Insider, Flat Bucky and other exclusive benefits is to be a member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association. All alumni and friends are welcome.
