Dec. 28, 1998 - LA scene
Getting our bearings brought us, inevitably, to the freeways, which
demonstrated how fecund the car fauna is in LA. Running along the freeways
is a rich vein of Beemers and Mercedes and a cacophony of convertibles,
showing that the car is not king in LA, it's super-Zeus. But in this case,
Zeus spews smog, which covers downtown LA with a brown-green gauze as you
gaze in its general direction from the Century Plaza tower.
Gotta go - the glittering lights of this sybaritic city are calling
- but tune in for tomorrow's postcard. There's so much to see here deep in
the heart of LA . . .
(From top to bottom: Smog above downtown L.A.; Mercedes-Benz under the lights; Avenue of the Stars cafe tables; and sunset looking towards Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean.) Previous | Next
