Jan. 1, 1999 - The Game

From the Rose Parade our busses went to the Rose Bowl stadium, first for some brats, cheese and other toothsome Wisconsin foods at the Badger Huddle, sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Association. Then to the granddaddy of them all, the Rose Bowl. Oh, what a treat simply to sit in the sun and watch the teams - and us - warm up. The sitting was on new individual seats with backs that are part of $22.5 million in stadium improvements. But at what a cost to taller people: It's hard to enjoy the seat back when your knees are in your nose.

How can you carp, however, when the day is so fine, and a squadron of Hornet fighter planes fly breathtakingly close to the stadium at the end of the national anthem, with a trailing lone fighter that suddenly pulls up and roars into the sky, sending the crowd into an awestruck tizzy. Cont'd

(From top to bottom: A 'paste-together' panorama of the Rose Bowl stadium; Ron Dayne carrying the ball; Badger fans making noise during the game; and Ron Dayne being interviewed by ABC reporter after receiving the MVP award.)
