Blank white image

Jan. 2, 1999 - P.S.

P.S. The blank and frosty whiteness of this card captures what we saw upon our return to Madison Saturday night. Jumping from sunbaked LA to snowdumped Madison was, shall we say, a cruelly abrupt transition. Our charter flight was diverted to Minneapolis because of the storm, and from there we were bussed to Madison. After six hours of whiteout-defying heroism by our drivers, we safely reached the Dane County Airport. Packing our cars outside the terminal, we were hit by a wind chill that took the thermometer to a very scary place.

And now, as we gaze with a shiver at the snowbank outside our campus office, we still can see that wonderfully red rose in the Wrigley Gardens at the Tournament of Roses headquarters, a rose with a palm tree towering in the background. How's that for a warm, soul-soothing memory from sunny Pasadena?
