Alvarez to be honored by Legislature

January 13, 2006 By Dennis Chaptman

Barry Alvarez, the coach who led the University of Wisconsin to national football prominence during 16 years as head coach, will speak to both houses of the state Legislature on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Alvarez, who is stepping down as head football coach but will remain on as the school’s athletic director, built a 118-73-4 record and capped his career as the Badgers defeated Auburn University 24-10 in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando on Jan. 2.

Both the Senate and Assembly are expected to adopt resolutions commending Alvarez on his accomplishments as coach of the Badgers.

Alvarez is expected to appear in the Senate at 10 a.m., and in the Assembly at 11 a.m.
