Alumni Weekend to get Badgers in the right spirit

April 19, 2011 By Kate Dixon

Badger spirit will be everywhere from April 28-May 1 as hundreds of University of Wisconsin–Madison alumni and friends return to campus for Alumni Weekend and celebrate Spirit Day across Wisconsin and the world.

New Alumni Weekend experiences are debuting in 2011 as the Wisconsin Alumni Association celebrates its 150th anniversary.

New events include the stylish All-Alumni Celebration on Thursday, April 28 at Union South, where alumni and friends will meet and network over food and drink, while honoring this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award honorees and other award winners.

On Friday, April 29, all are welcome for a day of learning and a classic Friday night Wisconsin fish fry with a Badger twist. And Badgers of all ages will celebrate at the free Alumni Party on Saturday, April 30 at Memorial Union, after the Crazylegs Classic race, with free ice cream, performances, a fun photo booth, prizes and visits by Bucky Badger.

“We’ve never had an Alumni Weekend like this before,” says Jeff Wendorf ’82, WAA’s vice president for programs and outreach. “With so many new and different kinds of events, it’s really a special chance for alumni, friends, families and the entire Madison community to interact on campus for the whole weekend.”

Registration is required for many Alumni Weekend events.

Badger Spirit Day also takes place Friday, April 29. UW–Madison alumni and friends will celebrate by wearing spirited Badger red attire to highlight the valuable role UW–Madison plays in the workforce, in Wisconsin and in communities around the world.

Participants in Spirit Day can enter a photo contest for the chance to win a complete Homecoming package, and every participant can receive a spirited Bucky window cling. Details and Spirit Day photos are at .

Badgers can also celebrate Spirit Day by wearing The Red Shirt, a collectible T-shirt that supports past, present and future UW students. To date, the Wisconsin Alumni Association has pledged $250,000 in donations to the Great People Scholarship Campaign from proceeds generated from The Red Shirt sales.
