Advisory: Mirisch unable to attend May 2 events

April 29, 2008

Producer Walter Mirisch regrets that, due to illness, he will be unable to attend the previously announced events scheduled for Friday, May 2. Please note that the reception for Mirisch has been canceled but that the University of Wisconsin–Madison Cinematheque will still screen the Academy restored print of "In the Heat of the Night" at 7:30 p.m.

The 3:30 p.m. reception for Mirisch sponsored by the Department of Communication Arts and the UW Press has been canceled.

At 7:30 p.m., the UW Cinematheque "Tribute to Walter Mirisch" will go on as scheduled, though Mirisch will not be in attendance. The Cinematheque will screen the Academy restored print of Mirisch’s 1967 classic "In the Heat of the Night." The film, starring Sidney Poitier as a Philadelphia detective investigating a murder in a sleepy Southern town, won five Academy Awards, with Mirisch taking home the Oscar for Best Picture.
