WHAT: Grand opening celebration of the Black Cultural Center at UW–Madison

WHEN: Wednesday, May 3, 2017

WHERE: Red Gym, 716 Langdon St., first floor

DETAILS: Throughout the day, the Black Cultural Center (BCC) will host drop-in events and gatherings that celebrate the contributions of black culture to the Wisconsin Experience. All events are open to the public and the media.

8:30-9:30 a.m.: Bagels at the BCC

10-11 a.m.: Visual Timeline walkthrough with Harvey Long, a doctoral student who researches the history of black students at UW–Madison

11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Lunch and Learn, featuring the premiere of the short film “Voices” by Marquise Mays

2:30-4 p.m.: Coffee break and Adinkra printmaking with Wheelhouse Studios

5 p.m.: Student Showcase featuring University Gospel Choir, ROOTZ Afro-Caribbean Dance Group, First Wave scholars and the National Pan-Hellenic Council Unity Step

6 p.m.: Panel of alumni, activists and elders

7:30 p.m.: Community meal
