23rd annual Dog Jog planned for Sept. 17

August 22, 2006

The School of Veterinary Medicine will again hold its annual Dog Jog Benefit for Homeless Animals at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17.

The majority of participants walk the two-mile course, although it is open to runners as well. Anyone who loves animals is encouraged to participate or donate funds; attendance isn’t required.

Last year, more than $34,000 was raised. Pledges benefit area humane organizations, including Angel’s Wish (Dane County), Beaver Dam Humane Society (Dodge County), Country Animal Haven (Dane County), Dane County Humane Society, Iowa County Humane Society, Humane Society of Jefferson County, Rock County Humane Society, Sauk County Humane Society, Washington County Humane Society and Watertown Humane Society (Jefferson County).

Participants can win prizes for collecting the most pledges, best costume and best finish times.

Due to construction on campus, the run/walk will once again begin in Lot 60, at Walnut Street and University Bay Drive on the west end of the UW–Madison campus.

Registration forms are available at area veterinary clinics, including the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Or download a form from http://www.dogjog.org or http://www.vetmed.wisc.edu. For more information, call 263-1010. Donations also are being accepted at http://www.dogjog.org.
