Karp Family celebrates 30 years of concerts with new work

August 22, 2006

Seems like only yesterday that members of the Karp family (now spanning several generations of musicians) started their annual Labor Day concerts at UW–Madison.

It wasn’t. It was 30 years ago this year. To commemorate the occasion and celebrate the anniversary, the family will debut composer Joel Hoffman’s new piece in their honor.

“Karptet,” for violin, viola, cello and two pianos, will join the music of Beethoven, Mahler, Strauss and others. The concert on Monday, Sept. 4, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Mosse Humanities Building’s Mills Hall. A reception follows in the courtyard.

Tickets for the Karp concert, part of the School of Music’s Faculty Concert Series, are $11 general/$8 seniors or non-UW-Madison students. UW–Madison students are free with a university ID. For details, e-mail music@wisc.edu or call 263-9485.
