Cervical cancer awareness forum tonight

April 17, 2006

State Sen. Lena Taylor, the Wisconsin State Director of Women In Government, will present an educational forum on cervical cancer tonight (Monday, April 17th) from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Historical Society, 816 State Street (across from the Memorial Union).

The forum is held in collaboration with UW–Madison’s Panhellenic Association, National Pan-Hellenic Association, Multicultural Greek Council, and Campus Women’s Center. The event is free and all are welcome.

Learn how to protect yourself against the threat of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is highly preventable – regular screening is key. Cervical cancer is caused by a common virus, human papillomavirus (or “HPV”). Most women will have HPV, but few will develop cervical cancer. Only HPV infection that persists can lead to cancer. Women should talk to their healthcare providers about the most advanced and appropriate technologies.

For more information, call Senator Taylor’s office at (888) 326-6673.

Guest Speakers include Tamika Felder, a cervical cancer survivor who will share her inspiring story; and Sen. Taylor, who represents Milwaukee’s 4th district and recently sponsored a resolution promoting awareness of Cervical Cancer.
