Important information for parking permit holders

January 18, 2006

A task force of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies continues to investigate a series of pipe bomb incidents downtown and in the Dane County Parking Ramp.

As a result, UW Police and Transportation Services personnel will be spending extra time patrolling UW parking facilities. People with questions or concerns should contact UW Police at 264-COPS (2677), or in an emergency by dialing 911.

Use the following precautions when using any public parking facilities:

  • Be aware of your surroundings when working, parking or walking to the ramps or areas around them.
  • Lock your vehicle.
  • After you return, check around and underneath your vehicle for any suspicious objects.
  • If you see a suspicious object:
    • Do not touch the object
    • Move a safe distance away from the object (300-600 feet).
    • Call 911 with the location and description of the object, as well as any individuals around it.
  • If you observe any suspicious activity, call 911.

Persons with information should contact the Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014 or the ATF at 1-888-ATF-BOMB. A $10,000 reward has been authorized.
