April 18, 2005

UW–Madison has added several new programs to the Research Channel, the 24-hour network for the broadcast of faculty research findings, institutional lectures, interviews, panel discussions and documentaries from the world’s leading research universities.

View the Undergraduate Symposium 2004, which showcased student achievements in research, creative endeavors and service learning. This video documentary grew out of a partnership between the Division of Information Technology and the Office of the Provost. It will air at 5:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 and 11:30 p.m. (Central Standard Time) on Wednesday, April 20, on the Research Channel.

Other programs newly available from the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems:

  • “Healthy Grown Potatoes,” which shows how Wisconsin potato growers are using Integrated Pest Management to reduce pesticide use and market their potatoes under the Healthy Grown brand.
  • “Stories from the Field: Fresh Market Fruit & Vegetables, Part 1,” which explores the sustainable agriculture movement.
  • “Stories from the Field: Fresh Market Fruit & Vegetables, Part 2,” which demonstrates that by using pesticides only when necessary, apple growers can save money and reduce environmental risks.

The Research Channel reaches nearly 18 million television households in the United States and countless online viewers worldwide, using cable, satellite and Web streaming technologies.

“I am very excited by our ability to share the lessons we have learned about the importance of undergraduate research experiences for [students’] education,” says Virginia Sapiro, associate vice chancellor.

UW–Madison faculty and staff who have content suitable for the Research Channel can contact Marilyn Lombardi at the Division of Information Technology at (608) 265-1162 to submit material.
