A high note

Several student groups performed, including MadHatters, Tangled Up in Blue, Redefined and Museko. Sponsored by fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the concert was a benefit for the Madison Creative Arts Program. Community asset
Lindsay Gordon (right), a senior studying personal finance, prepares Wanda Verdon’s state and federal tax returns as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at UW–Madison’s Community Partnerships Office in Villager Mall on South Park Street. The program, which runs through April 15, assists low-income, elderly and disabled residents. Gordon earns one academic credit for volunteering three hours a week. She says the best part of her experience is that the “people are so appreciative.” The program has more than 120 volunteers, half of them students in accounting, personal finance and consumer science, as well as retired certified public accountants and experts from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
