First of two pay adjustments for faculty and staff effective in July
As previously announced, UW–Madison faculty, academic staff, university staff and limited appointees will receive a 2 percent pay increase in July under the 2017–2019 pay plan. The pay plan establishes a 4 percent increase that will be phased in, with the first 2 percent increase taking effect in July 2018.
Employees who are paid monthly will see the increase on their earnings statement for July, paid on Aug. 1. For employees who are paid hourly, the increase became effective June 24 and will appear on the earnings statement dated July 19. Employees who are receiving the pay increase will receive a written communication in mid-July informing them of their new pay rate, when that pay rate becomes effective, and when the increase will be reflected on their paycheck.
“We are happy to be able to provide meaningful pay increases for our dedicated faculty and staff,” Chancellor Rebecca Blank said in January, when the 2017–2019 pay plan was announced. “For some time now, the state pay plan has not provided an opportunity to increase compensation, even as the cost of employee benefits and other living expenses have risen,” she added. “These pay increases will help us meet our goal of retaining the talented individuals we have working at UW–Madison.”
The second 2 percent increase under the pay plan will take effect in January 2019 (specific effective dates depend on employment group).
“We are excited to have the first phase of this long-anticipated pay increase take effect,” says Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Laurent Heller. “The pay plan provides us with an opportunity to recognize and reward our hard-working employees who are dedicated to the mission of UW–Madison.”
To be eligible to receive the pay plan increases, individuals must have been employed in their current positions by Jan. 8, 2018; must have completed UW–Madison’s sexual harassment prevention training; and must have met performance expectations as identified in their last performance evaluation. Supervisors were required to complete performance evaluations for the employees they supervise.
Employees with questions about the pay plan should speak with their local human resources contact.
