Babcock drive closed to traffic through early June

March 30, 1999 By

For the next couple of months, motorists will not be able to reach the west side of the campus by turning off University Avenue onto Babcock Drive.

The segment of Babcock between University and Linden Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic starting today (Monday, March 29) so that crews can complete utility work in the area. The closure is expected to continue until mid-June.

Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be allowed during that period, and the Babcock/Linden Drive intersection will remain open for eastbound and westbound traffic on Linden.

The only entrance to Lot 40 will be the one located between the Stock Pavilion and Babcock Hall.

The portion of Babcock Drive from Linden Drive to the entrance of Lot 38 will also be closed, but access to the parking lot at the corner of Babcock and Observatory drives will be maintained. This portion should be opened up again by the end of April, depending on the weather and the re-opening of asphalt plants. Campus buses will be rerouted during the time the work is being done. Riders should check with Transportation Services for temporary route changes.
