Move-in traffic advisory

August 26, 1998

Motorists may want to steer away from the campus area on Thursday and Friday, August 27 and 28. That’s when students will be moving into UW–Madison residence halls, and considerable traffic congestion can be expected in the vicinity. Drivers should be aware of the following changes in traffic routes between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on those days:

  • Lake Street between Johnson and Dayton streets will be closed to general traffic;
  • Observatory Drive traffic will be routed one-way westbound between Charter Street and Elm Drive;
  • Elm Drive traffic will be one-way northbound from Observatory Drive to Lake Mendota.

Faculty and staff with permits for parking lots near the residence halls are being asked to park in other lots farther away on those two days.

Other street changes due to construction in the campus area may cause additional inconvenience. For example, families bringing their students to the university or others traveling in the area should be aware that Park Street remains closed between Regent and Dayton streets.
