Waisman Center presents Festival on the Farm

May 4, 2011

Since 1986, the Waisman Center Children’s Theatre has presented most of its high-quality children’s programming in its auditorium. Twice a year, however, the action moves outside, to an amphitheatre set in the midst of a beautiful, accessible outdoor setting.

On Sunday, May 8, the Waisman Center celebrates the end of its performance season — and moms, of course. The Festival on the Farm takes place from 1-2:30 p.m., rain or shine; events are scheduled outside but move indoors in case of inclement weather. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children; all shows are sign interpreted.

The Waisman Center’s Discovery Garden is a fully accessible 1.5-acre outdoor learning play space. Each Discovery Garden event is based on a theme that is carried throughout the afternoon. This week, main stage performer Ken Lonnquist sings catchy, fun songs with humorous themes about the world around us: nature, families and much more. Since writing his first song at age seven, Lonnquist has become one of Wisconsin’s most popular family entertainers. Interactive stations with calves, chickens, sheep and other barnyard friends round out the activities for guests of all ages.

The Waisman Center is located at 1500 Highland Ave. For more information, visit the Center online or contact staff at 263-5837 or via email.
