Roundtable unveils spring lineup

January 28, 2009

Wisconsin jobs, the history of television and the function of sleep will be the topics of a series of University Roundtable luncheon presentations kicking off on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Featured speakers at University Roundtable discuss their work at the university as part of a series of engaging talks on timely, interesting topics.

The spring-semester programs, which feature a buffet lunch that begins serving at 11:30 a.m. in Tripp Commons at the Memorial Union, include:

  • Joel Rogers, a professor of law, political science, public affairs and sociology, will address “Jobs: Taking the High Road in Wisconsin” on Feb. 11. Rogers directs the Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS), the national think-and-do tank on high-road development and the new Center for State Innovation.
  • James L. Baughman, journalism professor and director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will discuss “Same Time, Same Station: Television’s Early Days,” on Wednesday, March 11.
  • Chiara Cirelli, an associate professor of psychiatry in the School of Medicine and Public Health, will discuss sleep in a talk titled “Sleep on It: The Function of Sleep and the Consequence of Sleep Loss” on Wednesday, April 8.

The programs are open to members of the university community and their guests, and each luncheon costs $10. The three-luncheon series price is $28, if paid by Feb. 4.

The reservation deadline is one week prior to each event, and reservations can be made through Colleen McCabe at 263-2985 or cmccabe@wisc.edu . Checks made out to UW Roundtable can be sent to McCabe at 270 Bascom Hall.
