Who wants to be a millionaire? UW–Madison’s Zach Harrison

Zachary Harrison, a UW–Madison junior from New York, has been selected as one of 11 students nationwide who will appear on a special College Week edition of the TV game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” later this month.

The shows were taped in New York City on Oct. 26 and will be aired nationally in syndication Nov. 20–24.

In Madison, “Millionaire” can be seen on WKOW-TV weekdays at 6:30 p.m.

Asked why he decided to audition for the show, Harrison says, “I had an off day this past summer and thought it would be fun. And my girlfriend at the time constantly nagged me to try out for it. She thought I’d do great with my ‘abundance of useless knowledge.’”

Harrison is not allowed to talk about how he fared on the show. He says he didn’t do a lot to prepare for the taping.

“It’s difficult to really study for it, because the questions you could be asked can cover just about anything,” he explains.

Harrison has yet to declare a major, but says he is leaning toward political science or the economic track in international studies.

Also surviving the auditions last month were students from two other Big Ten universities — two each from Ohio State and Penn State — as well as students from Barnard College, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, Stanford University, and the universities of Delaware and Pittsburgh.
