Wiley named chair of Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors

October 4, 2006

Chancellor John D. Wiley will chair the Big Ten Conference Council of Presidents/ Chancellors for 2006–07, the conference has announced.

“It’s a privilege to be able to help lead the Big Ten Conference at a very exciting and promising time in its history,” Wiley says.

The Big Ten this summer announced a pair of milestone media agreements that will ensure the long-term vitality of the 11 schools’ broad-based athletic programs.

One of the deals created the Big Ten Channel, which will showcase a wide array of sports and original programming produced by conference schools. The channel’s first affiliate is DIRECTV. Officials also intend to market the channel to cable TV providers.

Wiley will lead the policy-setting group as the conference and its member institutions prepare to launch the Big Ten Channel in August.
