October 3, 2006

“Bucky Goes to Camp … Randall” is the theme of the 2006 Badger Homecoming celebration, which kicks off on Friday, Oct. 6, and concludes with the Wisconsin-Minnesota football game on Saturday, Oct. 14. The entire university community is invited to join in the festivities.

The annual charity 5k walk/3k run, dubbed the “Hike Across Camp-us” this year, is Sunday, Oct. 8, starting at noon at Library Mall. Golfers can participate in the annual Homecoming golf outing at University Ridge on Friday, Oct. 13. The proceeds from Homecoming events go to the Dean of Students Crisis Fund and student scholarships.

Faculty and staff are also invited to take part in the Homecoming Blood Drive at the Red Gym on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 11 and 12.

The Homecoming parade, which draws thousands of spectators each year rain or shine, will be on Friday, Oct. 13, starting at 6 p.m. The route is Wisconsin Avenue to Gilman Street and down State Street to Lake Street. A pep rally and fireworks will follow at the Memorial Union Terrace.

Langdon Street will be closed from 3-7 p.m. on parade day, and Langdon between Lake and Park streets will remain closed until 8:45 p.m. The parade route will be closed from 6-7 p.m. It includes upper Wisconsin Avenue, Gilman Street to State Street, State to Lake Street and Lake to Langdon. North Frances Street between State Street and Lake Mendota will be closed from 3-7 p.m. A few other blocks on streets adjacent to the parade route will be blocked off from 5-7 p.m. Tickets will be issued for illegal parking. Access to the Lake Street ramp will be from University Avenue only.
