900 years of Chinese painting on exhibition at Elvehjem

February 24, 2004

Almost a millennium of paintings, gathered during half a century, are on exhibition through Sunday, March 14, at the Elvehjem Museum of Art. “Masterworks of Chinese Painting: In Pursuit of Mists and Clouds” encompasses figure, bird-and-flower and the much-venerated landscape paintings covering the many years between about 1200 and the 1960s. Collected by James Cahill, whose son Nick is an associate professor of art history at UW–Madison, the works were used as teaching tools by the elder Cahill at the University of California-Berkeley.
