Students in UW–Madison’s International Student Summer Institute got an up-close look Thursday at one of the things that makes Wisconsin special: dairy cows. The tour of the Dairy Cattle Center, led by veterinary medicine student Rachel Taber, showcased how dozens of cows are used for both teaching and research on campus. The Summer Institute, now in its third year, allows first-year international students to arrive several weeks ahead of the fall semester and take an academic reading and writing class for non-native English speakers. The students also get to know campus through fun events and tours. This year, 34 students representing 10 countries are taking part — the highest number to date.
