Update from Chancellor Rebecca Blank on Title IX

September 23, 2017

Chancellor Rebecca Blank shared the following statement on Saturday, Sept. 23.

“UW-Madison’s procedures on sexual assault and Title IX remain in effect and unchanged following Friday’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Education.

We are committed to making our campus a safe environment for all students. Sexual violence and harassment have no place here.

Our policies are guided by the University of Wisconsin System administrative code.

Our procedures incorporate the due process elements discussed in Friday’s guidance from the Department of Education.

We will await additional information and guidance provided from the department as this process continues.

We work to ensure that our process is prompt, fair, and impartial. Both parties have equal participation rights throughout any investigation and disciplinary procedures.

Following the results of the AAU Campus Climate Survey on Sexual Assault and Sexual Misconduct, we have diligently improved our education of all students about sexual violence. We will continue to provide confidential support and other resources to survivors, as well as requiring evidence-informed education and prevention programs.”
