Chancellor Blank message on Nepal earthquake

April 26, 2015

To our UW–Madison students and employees,

For those of you from Nepal and neighboring countries, I wanted to take a moment to let you know that my thoughts are with you in the wake of the deadly earthquake last week. With the estimated number of victims continuing to grow, people across the world, including our campus community, are grieving.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is a university with a global mission and an internationally diverse population. We express our concern and condolences to all students, alumni, faculty, and staff who have ties to this region.

I realize that the lives of some of our campus community may have been disrupted by this tragedy. During this time, we want to provide any assistance and support that we can.

For students, I urge you to utilize the staff in International Student Services, 608-262-2044, or the Dean of Students Office, 608 263-5700. We are here to support and assist you.

For employees, assistance is available through the Employee Assistance Office (EAO). For more information: eao@mailplus.wisc.edu or call 608-263-2987. Cultural Linguistics Services in the Office of Human Resources can also provide translation and interpretation services in Nepalese, Tibetan and Chinese. For assistance, contact Carmen Romero (cromero@ohr.wisc.edu; 608-265-4691).

If you are interested in relief efforts, UW–Madison supports the programs of the Red Cross.

If you are aware of campus-based relief efforts, please email me at chancellor@news.wisc.edu so that we might help publicize your plans.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Blank

Chancellor
