Workplace learning conference scheduled in Milwaukee

The Fourth Annual Workplace Learning Conference, sponsored by the Center on Education and Work at UW–Madison, will draw more than 1,000 people from 42 states and six nations May 16-18 in Milwaukee.

Participants will include employers, union officials, educators and governmental partners from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Mexico and the United States. The conference, to be held at the Midwest Express Center, is titled “Workplace Learning: Progress through Innovation.”

The keynote speaker will be Jon Schnur, senior adviser for education to Vice President Al Gore. He will speak on “21st Century Skills for 21st Century Jobs: How Do We Get There?” Before joining the White House two years ago, Schnur served as special assistant to Secretary of Education Richard Riley.

More than 100 sessions covering four program tracks are scheduled. The tracks include partnerships and linkages, program design and evaluation, resources and technologies, and trends affecting the workplace and workers.
