Web portal adds resources for instructors, students

August 26, 2003

UW–Madison instructors have new, online access to three course-related resources. The resources — library reserves, class rosters and course services — are found in the My UW–Madison Web portal under the Academic tab. Each is viewable only by the professor, instructor, lecturer or teaching assistant who has been granted access.

“Library Reserves by Department” allows instructors and their students to see reserves that have been submitted to the library for specific courses. Starting this fall, reserves will be available only through My UW.

Instructors can also see their latest class rosters online, by linking to them from the My UW “Class Roster” module in the Academic tab.

“Course Services,” also found under the Academic tab, is a list of links to helpful resources, such as E-mail Class lists, Learn@UW Online Courses, Grades and Grading Policy, and Classroom Scheduling.

Students can now see library reserves for their specific courses in their My UW–Madison view. Reserves are found in My UW’s Academic tab, in each student’s list of courses for the semester. The library course page available through that link provides access to both electronic reserve items and books placed on reserve in libraries.

“These resources should make campus and course information much more accessible to instructors and students,” says Provost Peter Spear. “Plans call for adding more features, if possible, based on feedback.”

The project to develop these new electronic resources was a joint effort by the Office of the Registrar, UW Libraries and the Division of Information Technology.
