WAA rolls out red carpet for Alumni Weekend

May 1, 2003

The Wisconsin Alumni Associationwill welcome hundreds of alumni back to the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus for its biggest event of the year, Alumni Weekend, from Friday-Sunday, May 9-11. This annual event provides alumni the opportunity to attend lectures with top faculty, reminisce with old friends, rub elbows with distinguished alumni and visit favorite Madison hot spots.

The weekend kicks off with Day on Campus, a series that allows graduates to choose from several classroom-style lectures given by UW–Madison faculty and staff. That evening, the Distinguished Alumni Awards program will honor six graduates for their professional and university service, including the second-annual Distinguished Young Alumni Award recipient. The remainder of the weekend is filled with open houses, luncheons, evening receptions and special celebrations for various groups of alumni.

“It is our pleasure to welcome alumni and friends back to campus for these festive events,” says Paula Bonner, president and CEO of WAA. “In addition to honoring graduates who are celebrating milestone class reunions, we’ve broadened our vision for Alumni Weekend by inviting grads back for specialized events based on activities they were involved in while on campus.”

For example, on the afternoon of Friday, May 9, the College of Letters and Science will sponsor an emeritus faculty lecture entitled, “Artist Meets Novelist: Stella Bowen and Ford Madox Ford” in the Memorial Union Play Circle. UW alumni who were members of the Iron Cross Society or affiliated with Hillel while on campus will have an opportunity to reminisce with fellow grads at special receptions on Saturday, May 10. And on Sunday, May 11, the School of Human Ecology will feature a student fashion show in the Memorial Union’s Great Hall.

A complete schedule of Alumni Weekend events, including times and locations, can be found at http://www.uwalumni.com/alumniweekend. All alumni and friends of UW–Madison are invited to attend the weekend’s events. For information about registration, contact WAA’s Sue Miller at (608) 262-9647.
