WAA helps parents give students an exam-week boost

December 9, 1998

Several hundred UW–Madison students will be receiving care packages to help them survive final exam week this month through a program sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board.

The Final Exams Service Program gives parents the opportunity to send their sons and daughters one of three care packages: the $15.45 Fruit Pack, featuring “wholesome and fun” foods like apples and oranges, hot chocolate mix, yogurt-covered raisins, tea biscuits and microwave popcorn; the $15.95 Energy Kit, containing a wide assortment of candies and high-energy snacks such as caramel-glazed pretzels, jelly beans, nuts, fudge, and a granola bar; and the $30.95 Combo Pack, made up of both the Fruit Pack and Energy Kit.

Deborah Schreiner, coordinator of Student and Parent Programs for the Wisconsin Alumni Association, says 400-500 orders are expected. She says the majority of parents send the Fruit Pack.

Proceeds from the project help fund programs and services sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board. Those include weekend campus tours for prospective students, community service projects such as adopting a family or two this coming holiday season, and outreach to the campus and alumni.

Recipients who live on campus will be picking up their packages Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 14-16, at the Below Alumni House, 650 N. Lake St. The busiest times are expected to be Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 15 and 16, between noon and 1:30 p.m. Packages are mailed to students living off campus.
