Van Vleck classes canceled due to power outage

March 3, 2008

An early-morning power outage in the University of Wisconsin–Madison central campus area has prompted class cancellations in Van Vleck Hall and has triggered some sporadic technology network problems.

Electrical engineers are investigating the problem to determine the cause and repair electrical service. There is also a small amount of flooding in the basement of Van Vleck.

Students are asked to stay out of the building. Faculty and staff should consult with individual department offices for information about how to conduct today’s work day.

The problem is also causing sporadic network problems in the central campus areas. For complete details on outages and repairs, visit DoIT’s Level 1 Outage page. Updates on Tuesday’s schedule in Van Vleck will also be provided online

Power was out this morning but has since been restored at two residence halls and campus buildings located in the area bordered by Park Street, Charter Street, University Avenue and Observatory Drive.

All buildings other than Van Vleck will remain open and faculty, staff and students are asked to continue with Monday’s regularly scheduled classes and university business.
