The University of Wisconsin–Madison community is mourning the loss of two of its students.

“We’re deeply saddened by the loss of two members of our community as we begin this spring semester,” says Dean of Students Lori Berquam. “We offer our deepest condolences to their family and friends.”

Thomas “Tommy” Kuehn, 24, died on Thursday, Jan. 13, following a brief and sudden illness.

Anna Shoemaker, 20, of Hudson, Wis., also died on Thursday, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Ashland.

Memorial information for both students is below. Additional reflections of their time on campus will be posted next week. If you are interested in organizing campus memorials for either student, email dean@studentlife.wisc.edu.

A memorial Mass for Tommy Kuehn will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 17., at St. Ann Catholic Church, 323 N. Van Buren, Stoughton. Friends may greet the family from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16, at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at church on Monday.

“We appreciate the outpour of love and support from the Stoughton and Madison community,” Jill and Tom Kuehn and family said in a statement. “Tommy was a vibrant young man with such promise; he was loved by many.”

A Celebration of Life for Anna Shoemaker will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Faith Community Church, 777 Carmichael Rd., Hudson. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service and also from 4-7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Services are being coordinated by the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, (715) 386-3725.
