UW-Madison launches new opportunities for absentee voting

March 21, 2007 By John Lucas

Even if you plan to travel during the upcoming spring break, it’s easy and convenient for students, faculty and staff to cast absentee ballots in the Tuesday, April 3, general election.

Elections will select a state Supreme Court justice, Madison mayor, campus-area alders and school board members. There are numerous ways to request an absentee ballot and cast your vote.

Options for receiving an absentee ballot include:

Request a ballot and vote by mail. Mail the form to the Madison city clerk, and a ballot and stamped self-addressed return envelope will be sent to you within 48 hours.

Ballot request forms have been distributed to all students in residence halls and are also available for pickup at the Essentials counter in Memorial Union and the Corner Store at Union South. Fill out the form and place it in the nearest drop box. The clerk’s office will pick up the applications and mail you a ballot.

— Vote early, in person. A trolley bus will run between the front of Memorial Union and the Madison city clerk’s office for those interested in voting in person. The bus will depart every half-hour between 4-6 p.m. Monday, March 26-Thursday, March 29.

The clerk’s office, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Room 103, will extend its hours until 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 26-Thursday, March 29, and until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2. The office will also be open from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, and on Saturday, March 31, for absentee voting. Electors voting on Saturday must use the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard entrance.

— Vote at your polling place on election day, Tuesday, April 3. Polls are open in Madison from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

Additional information on registration, absentee voting or your polling place is available from the Madison city clerk at (608) 266-4601.
