UW-Madison debuts new ID card

August 27, 2002

University identification cards are getting a new look.

The new IDs include a color photo, the carrier’s primary status (student, faculty/staff, affiliate, guest student or visitor) and a digital signature.

The ID, designed by University Communications, features a picture of Bascom Hall in the background. It also will sport new logos of the UW crest and the Wiscard campus debit card program, signifying that the same card can be used to purchase food and services at more than 40 campus area locations including Union South, Memorial Union and University Housing locations.

“All new students and staff will automatically receive the new card,” says Wiscard program manager Jim Wysocky.

Old university ID cards will continue to work and if the card is still in good shape there is no need to obtain a new ID, Wysocky says. However, if a card is worn or contains a social security number, a new card is available at no cost in exchange for the old ID. Students with a social security number on their card must stop by the Registrar’s Office before going to the Photo ID office. Anyone who has lost a card can obtain a new card for $10.”

Students and employees may obtain a new ID, go to the Photo ID office in the lower level of Union South, 227 N. Randall Ave, weekdays 8 a.m.-4:15 pm.
