UW Law School to host lecture on Gulf of Mexico oil spill

September 1, 2011

A University of Wisconsin–Madison graduate will return to campus to talk about her work investigating last year’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fran Ulmer, who recently retired as chancellor at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2010 to the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling.

Ulmer will give a lecture, “The Deepwater Horizon Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill: Lessons Learned and Actions Needed,” at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, in Lubar Commons of the UW Law School.

Ulmer received a law degree from the UW Law School and a bachelor’s degree from UW–Madison in economics and political science.

Madison Mayor Paul Soglin will introduce Ulmer; a reception in the Law School’s atrium will immediately follow the lecture.
