‘Upswing’ dance faculty concert set for Nov. 19-20
The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Dance Department is celebrating its new status as a department during the campus’s Year of the Arts with a two-night fall faculty concert, “Upswing,” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, and Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Wisconsin Union Theater, 800 Langdon St.
“Upswing” will premiere two nights of inspiring and diverse dance works set to riveting, live music moving the audience through time and space, exploring dreams, memories and universal human connections. New pieces will examine the cultural issues surrounding immigration, the historical events of the Vietnam War and gender concerns of the 21st century woman.
Among the eight dance works slated for the stage will be a new piece titled “Here/So (12 lines)” by New York guest artist in residence Bill Young. Dance works will be presented by faculty artists including Li Chiao-Ping, Kate Corby, Chris Walker, Peggy Choy, Marlene Skog, Karen McShane-Hellenbrand and Jin-Wen Yu.
Tickets are $18 general public and $10 students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the campus arts ticketing box office at http://www.uniontheater.wisc.edu, by phone at 608-265-ARTS (2787) or in person at the Wisconsin Union Theater Box Office, 800 Langdon St. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door. Seating is reserved.
There will be a post-performance reception Friday, Nov. 19, with the artists, students and staff in the Main Lounge at the Memorial Union. Refreshments will be served.
