UHS Sports Medicine clinic opens two locations

September 17, 2003 By Jonathan Zarov

University Health Services (UHS) and the Department of Recreational Sports have partnered to launch a new sports medicine clinic at UW–Madison.

UHS Sports Medicine is now providing injury evaluation and self-care advice for students participating in recreational, intramural and club sports or workouts who incur minor injuries.

The UHS Sports Medicine drop-in clinic is open Monday through Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., and 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursdays in Room 1138 at the Natatorium, 2000 Observatory Drive.

“Partnering with UHS allows us to provide a valuable service to the many students on this campus who are physically active,” says Director of Recreational Sports Dale Carruthers. “You don’t have to be a varsity athlete to get sports-specialized medical care.”

Students can drop in for a sports-related injury evaluation and, if needed, obtain a referral to see a UHS Sports Medicine physician. The service is primarily intended to help students deal with or answer questions about minor injuries such as sprains, muscle strains or tennis elbow. No appointment is necessary at the Natatorium during drop-in hours.

Athletic trainers are also available to evaluate student injuries at UHS on Wednesday afternoons, but appointments must be scheduled in advance. Sports medicine physicians will be on site at UHS, 1552 University Ave., and available to students by referral from a UHS clinician or athletic trainer.

This program is available to UW–Madison students. For more information, call UHS at (608) 265-5600.
